A Florida House panel this week approved legislation compelling Gov. Charlie Crist to negotiate an agreement with the Seminole Indian Tribe of Florida that will allow continued operation of slot machines, said Rep. Bill Galvano (R-Bradenton), chairman of the House Select Committee on Seminole Indian Compact Review.

“I think it’s a great committee bill, and helps us move forward in the process,” said Rep. Galvano.

When the bill becomes law, it will raise a minimum of $100 million annually, or 18 percent of gambling revenues, whichever is greater, said Rep. Galvano.

“We’ve estimated year one to be somewhere around $220 million,” said Galvano of the revenue the legislation might rise.
The legislative staff analysis shows that in Year Three the state would receive between $310 million and $439 million, Rep. Galvano said.
