The three largest gambling meccas outside of Nevada are Atlantic City, Mississippi and the largest casinos in the worldFoxwoods and Mohegan Sun. We also examine other US states, some of which report payouts in our search for the best slots. Indian Casinos are not required to report slot payouts, so, it is impossible to evaluate them.
For your information, VLT’S are video lottery terminals regulated by the state or provincial lottery commissions that in turn receive a share of revenue. The machine accepts cash but doesn’t pay out in cash; a printed receipt is redeemed.

The best payouts listed, subject to change, are for all slots including regular slots, video poker and keno. The following is a partial list as not all casinos report their payout percentages. If your state or favorite casino isn’t listed, then I would ask, Why Not? This information is one of the most important decision-makers in selecting a casino.

States that offer payout data are published below with the top casino/regional payouts listed in order along with other useful information.

Atlantic City: Caesars, Bally’s Park Place and AC Hilton.

Atlantic City now has 12 casinos plus Borgata to choose. Note: Slots and Video Poker payouts are 4% higher in Vegas, than in the Northeast area. A big disservice to Easterners, I believe.

Best Regions: *Coastal, North & South Regions. *MS is divided into 3 regions: Coastal=Biloxi, Gulfport & Bay St. Louis. North=Tunica--Robinsonville and Lula. South=Vicksburg, Natchez & Greenville.

Mississippi now has more gambling square footage than Atlantic City.  Thirty-one casinos and growing, divided as per the state gambling board into three areas: Coastal, North and South. In the Gulf area, the Grand Gulfport has become the ‘locals’ casino and Grand Biloxi, a tourist resort. You know what I always say, “Go where the locals play”. Use their expertise for better payouts.

Connecticut: Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

These two competing casinos vie for the best payouts that usually results in a tie. Foxwoods Casino: the largest in the world, offers over 6000 machines.  Mohegan Sun: now declares itself the second largest casino. With so many machines to choose, these two casinos provide a good alternative to Vegas although the payouts are not as high.

Colorado: Best Regions: BlackHawk, Cripple Creek and Central City.

There is generally very little difference in payout %’s between these three areas.

Illinois: Casino Queen, Grand Victoria, Alton Belle, also Hollywood.

Indiana: Argosy Lawrenceburg, Belterra, Blue Chip and Caesars.

Iowa: Prairie Meadows, Bluff’s Run and Isle of Capri-Bettendorf.

Louisiana: 4 Regions: Baton Rouge, Shreveport/Bossier City, New Orleans and Lk. Charles.

Missouri: Argosy, Isle of Capri and President.

Other casino selections in the US include:

California: there are now 50+ casinos in the state, but no payout reporting is required, so it is not possible to name the top casinos.

Detroit: a contender with 3 gaming licenses: MGM Grand, Greektown and Motor City.

New York: is expanding with at least 4 new casinos pending. Niagara Falls, NY tribal casino is already opened. Note: MI and NY are also not required to report payouts.

Riverboat Casinos: some actually cruise and are located in: Florida-offshore, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi and Missouri.

In the end, it must be said, that the largest selection and best payouts are in Las Vegas.
